Pepe Romero plays Asturias [Albéniz] and Fantasia [Romero]

World-renowned Spanish classical and flamenco guitarist Pepe Romero plays Asturias (Leyenda), a musical work written by the Spanish composer Isaac Albéniz; and Fantasia, by Celedonio Romero (2 March 1913 – 8 May 1996, the father of Pepe Romero), the guitarist, composer, and poet, perhaps best known as the founder of The Romeros guitar quartet. This performance was recorded on March 16, 2014, during the Tucson Winter Chamber Musc Festival. A really good performance, enjoy!

Mario Del Monaco sings Nessun Dorma and Di quella pira

Two famous operatic arias from the legendary Italian dramatic tenor Mario Del Monaco (27 July 1915 – 16 October 1982), who earned worldwide acclaim for his powerful voice: “Nessun Dorma” from Turandot, an opera in three acts by Giacomo Puccini, and “Di quella pira”, a short tenor aria (or more specifically, a cabaletta) sung by Manrico in act 3, scene 2, of Giuseppe Verdi’s opera Il trovatore.

Tchaikovsky: Piano Concerto No. 1 [Barenboim, Mehta]

Accompanied by the Berliner Philharmoniker (The Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra), Daniel Barenboim plays Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No. 1 in B-flat minor, Op. 23. Conductor: Zubin Mehta. The sound and acoustics are well preserved in this 1990s live outdoor concert for this not unexpectedly, excellent performance by Barenboim.

Mozart: Symphony No. 5 [Vienna Philharmonic, Ton Koopman]

Conducted by Ton Koopman, the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra (Wiener Philharmoniker) plays Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Symphony No. 5 in B-flat major, K. 22. The composer was nine years old when he composed the piece in The Hague in December 1765. He was on his musical tour of Western Europe.

Conducted by the legendary Italian conductor Claudio Abbado, the Orchestra Mozart performs Johann Sebastian Bach’s Brandenburg Concertos (BWV 1046–1051, original title: Six Concerts à plusieurs instruments), a collection of six instrumental works, widely regarded as some of the best orchestral compositions of the Baroque era.
