Accompanied by the American classical pianist Lambert Orkis, the German violinist Anne-Sophie Mutter plays Ludwig van Beethoven’s Violin Sonata No. 9 Opus 47, commonly known as the “Kreutzer Sonata”. It is known for its demanding violin part, unusual length (a typical performance lasts slightly less than 40 minutes), and emotional scope – while the first movement is predominantly furious, the second is meditative, and the third joyous and exuberant.

Beniamino Gigli sings “La Paloma”

The most famous tenor of his generation, Beniamino Gigli (March 20, 1890 – November 30, 1957) sings “La Paloma” (English: the dove), a popular Spanish song which was composed and written by the Spanish composer from the Basque region Sebastián Iradier (aka Sebastián Yradier – 20 January 1809 – 6 December 1865) after he visited Cuba in 1861.

Mario Lanza and Luisa Di Meo sing “Arrivederci Roma”

The great American tenor and Hollywood film star of Italian origin, Mario Lanza and Luisa Di Meo (the little girl) sing “Arrivederci Roma” (Goodbye Rome), from the 1958 Italian-American musical film “Seven Hills of Rome”. It was Lanza’s penultimate film. The composer of the song, Renato Rascel (27 April 1912 – 2 January 1991) also played in the movie. Lyrics of the song by Pietro Garinei and Sandro Giovannini. It was published in 1955 as part of the soundtrack and the American songwriter Carl Sigman wrote the lyrics for the English language version of the movie.
