Conducted by Mike Batt, the Secret Symphony Orchestra plays Batt’s “Main Theme” to the “Caravans”, a 1978 Iranian-American film directed by James Fargo based on the novel by James A. Michener. Recorded at Cadogan Hall, London, in May 2010.
The movie was shot in Iran and starred Anthony Quinn, Jennifer O’Neill, and Michael Sarrazin.
Mike Batt wrote the score, which has been the most successful element of the film, remaining a bestseller for many years after the film’s release.

Caravans
Caravans is a 1978 Iranian-American adventure drama film directed by James Fargo based on the 1963 novel by James A. Michener. Nancy Voyles Crawford wrote the screenplay. This film represents the people of Afghanistan and their traditions in Qandahar, and Badakhshan cities at that time and the Kochi people of Afghanistan. The film was shot in Afghanistan and Iran and starred Anthony Quinn, Jennifer O’Neill, and Michael Sarrazin.

Michael Philip Batt LVO (born 6 February 1949) is a British songwriter, musician, producer, director, conductor, and Deputy Chairman of the British Phonographic Industry.
He is best known for creating The Wombles pop act, writing the chart-topping “Bright Eyes”, and discovering Katie Melua. He has conducted many of the world’s great orchestras, including the London Symphony, Royal Philharmonic, London Philharmonic, Sydney Symphony, and Stuttgart Philharmonic in both classical and pop recordings and performances.
