Mozart – Symphony No. 25 (Bernstein, Wiener Philharmoniker)

Conducted by the American composer, conductor, author, music lecturer, and pianist Leonard Bernstein, the Wiener Philharmoniker (Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra) performs Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Symphony No. 25 in G minor, K. 183/173dB. Mozart composed this symphony in October 1773, when he was just 17 year-old.

Conducted by Nikolaus Harnoncourt, one of the most innovative and influential conductors of the second half of the 20th century, the Chamber Orchestra of Europe performs Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Symphony No. 39 in E-flat major, K. 543; Symphony No. 40 in G minor, KV. 550; and Symphony No. 41 in C major, K. 551 (nicknamed the Jupiter Symphony).

Mozart – Symphony No. 20

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Symphony No. 20 in D major, K. 133. The work was composed in July, 1772, when the composer was sixteen years old. This symphony is one of many written during the period Mozart stayed in Salzburg, between two trips to Italy. Compared to other symphonies Mozart wrote in this period, the scoring is extravagant, featuring two trumpets in addition to the standard oboes, horns, and strings. The key of D major, which is a key often reserved for ceremonial music, is well suited to the presence of these trumpets. This symphony seems to be a milestone for Mozart, further separating him from simply the “gallant” style and he puts more of his own unique personality and energy into the work.
