Strauss – Also Sprach Zarathustra – Orquesta Sinfónica de Galicia and OSG Youth Orchestra

Conducted by Dima Slobodeniouk, Orquesta Sinfónica de Galicia (Galicia Symphony Orchestra) and the Youth Orchestra of OSG perform Richard Strauss’ “Also sprach Zarathustra” (Thus Spoke Zarathustra or Thus Spake Zarathustra), a tone poem composed in 1896. Recorded at the Palace of the Opera of A Coruña on February 26, 2016. Published by the Orquesta Sinfónica de Galicia channel. The work is inspired by the German philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche’s philosophical novel of the same name, and has been an important part of the classical repertoire since its first performance in 1896. The initial fanfare – titled “Sunrise” in the composer’s program notes – became particularly well-known after its use in Stanley Kubrick’s 1968 film 2001: A Space Odyssey.
