Schubert – Arpeggione Sonata (Perényi, Schiff)

Hungarian cellist Miklós Perényi and Hungarian-born virtuoso British classical pianist and conductor András Schiff perform Franz Schubert’s Sonata in A minor for Arpeggione and Piano, D. 821. The sonata is originally written for arpeggione, a six-stringed musical instrument, fretted and tuned like a guitar, but bowed like a cello, and thus similar to the bass viola da gamba.

Bach – English Suites (András Schiff)

Hungarian-born British classical pianist and conductor András Schiff plays Johann Sebastian Bach’s English Suites, BWV 806–811, a set of six keyboard suites which the German composer wrote for the clavier (harpsichord or clavichord). They are generally thought to be the earliest of his 19 suites for keyboard.
